Victoria Palace Theatre
The Victoria Palace Theatre, at its present location has been the site of several theatres. The Victoria Palace Theatre was first named the Moys Music Hall in 1863, then became known as the Royal Standard Music Hall. In 1910 the Royal Standard was demolished and the current theatre Victoria Palace Theatre was built.
Victoria Picture Palace
Victoria Picture Palace - The Cinema opened in 1911 and was situated directly across the street from, what is now, Victoria St Tube Station entrance. In 1978 Victoria Picture Palace turned into a nightclub called The Venue. Several musical acts performed there. In 1981 The venue Closed its doors and the Auditorium was demolished. The Auditorium had to make way for an office block.
Little Ben
A 20ft version of the Big Ben, called the Little Ben, stands in a traffic island outside the Victoria Palace. In 1892 it was set in Victoria street and in 1964 it was removed. In 191 it was restored again.
Apollo Victoria
The Apollo Victoria on Wilton Road was built in 1930. It opened as the “New Victoria” and was a super cinema in art deco style. In 1975 it was closed. In 1981 it opened again and hosted a few musicals. Some of the musical that played here are Starlight Express, Bombay Dreams, Saturday Night Fever and the latest is Wicked.
